The Health District is seeking a Senior Accountant. The Senior Accountant works in collaboration with the Finance team and independently with limited oversight, performing high level account functions covering a broad range of financial duties accurately and in compliance with government regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration, with 5+ years of experience.
  • Excellent computer & technical skills, especially Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong communication, customer service, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting functions, principles, and practices—including GAAP.
  • Working knowledge of internal control frameworks and segregation-of-duties principles, including account reconciliation practices.
  • Experience with Oracle NetSuite ERP is preferred.
  • Experience or knowledge of governmental accounting regulations is preferred.
  • Experience with grant or subrecipient financial monitoring and reporting is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Accountant:

  • Prepare and record complex journal entries and maintain supporting documentation for all transactions.
  • Perform monthly bank, balance sheet, and subledger reconciliations as the Finance Department's independent control point, including verifying that funds transferred to the payroll provider match the approved payroll register, remaining separate from transaction entry and payment processing in each area.
  • Maintain the vendor and customer master files, independently verifying any vendor banking changes prior to activation.
  • Maintain comprehensive workpapers for all balance sheet accounts in accordance with established standards.
  • Prepare financial reports and dashboards to support organizational decision-making.
  • Contribute to the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
  • Recommend process improvements that strengthen internal controls, efficiency, and accuracy.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, providing requested documentation and support during the annual financial statement audit.
  • Cultivate positive, professional, and productive relationships with internal staff, leadership, external agencies, and members of the public.
